True rose water IS rose hydrosol — the product of actual steam distillation of petals. The catch: many market "rose waters" are just water mixed with synthetic fragrance and a pink tint, with no distillation involved. The label tells you — look for "hydrosol," "distillate" or "Rosa damascena flower water." The real thing tones and soothes; the imitation just smells.
